Along with Earth and Titan, Mars is one of the three capital worlds of the Three World Empire. Valles Colony on Mars was the former headquarters of Weyland Corp before they merged with Yutani. Terraforming has made the planet home for over 20 million colonists. Weyland-Yutani still maintains offices there, and operates a weapons testing facility on the moon of Phobos. Nüwa City, built into the cliff faces at Tempe Mensa by the Shimago-Domínguez Corporation, is a popular off-world colony that's advertised heavily on Earth by SONet (Sustainable Off-world Network).

Mars 2037 AD (Blade Runner Era)
Mars is occupied by humans as part of the U.N.-sanctioned colonization program. It contains several settlements, including New America. The factory that manufactures Nexus-6 brain units, a branch of the Rosen Association, is located on Mars. In late 2019, a group of androids escapes Mars in a shuttle destined for Earth.

Mars 1997 AD (Terraforming Mars Era)
The Off-World Emigration Program begins with the moon and Mars as the first colonies, employing the use of slave labor by replicants. Only the wealthiest and most desirable applicants are granted off-world visas, further tearing at human society as only the Specials without the health, wealth, and education to qualify for emigration are left behind on Earth.
