Professions Profession -Character -Character-Article -Profession-Article Jobs employment
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Currently the only way to auto-link/cross-link a character article to a profession article is to add them to 'Famous in the Field" on a profession article. This is an issue for characters who aren't meant to be "famous" in the field, and simply because if you have a lot of characters in different professions, this can be frustrating to have to manually link them.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
This would simply add "Related Profession(s)" to the prompts of a "Character Article" under the "Current State" section (Or perhaps in the employment section). This would auto-link this to that profession (in the content panel). Also this would add these characters to the content panel of the related profession article under "Related Characters" instead of adding them all to "Famous in the Field" (either as a replacement of this or in addition to). Essentially adding an auto-link/cross-link feature between Character and Profession articles that isn't under "Famous in the Field."
What are other uses for this feature request?
In general this would just allow for ease of use in order to link other characters who aren't meant to be "famous" to a profession. This would also make it so that people can see related characters more easily on profession page. Lastly this would add the "Create new article" button for this so you can create a profession from the Character Article page.
(Apologies if I am completely ignorant of systems already in place. I am aware of the employment section on a character article. This feature would cross link between the character article and the profession article as opposed to writing it in via tags on both articles.)
The Team's Response
A similar request was raised some days ago and the answer is the same. Currently world anvil has about 300+ prompt section under 25 templates. This already makes these interfaces quite heavy. We are working on finding ways to DE-clutter the article editing interface. If we were to duplicate one bi-directional prompt (one that is related to two entities linking them) that should happen for ALL of them, that is more than 30% of the prompts.... a additional 100 elements that will complicate things even more and make maintenance, and therefore development infinitely harder and slower.
I do have some ideas of this can be done in the future, but with the current interface that will cause more problems than it will solve.
But, I do hear you, and I do see that most of these requests come for either Characters or Organizations. Do not despair!
