Character Template: Move "Biological Sex" to the Generic Tab

template character gender

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Right now, the Biological Sex panel for the Character template is buried in the "Physical" tab, under Conditions, General Physical Condition, Body Features, and Facial Features.   Biological Sex is an important (sometimes core) aspect to a character, so it should be next to Species, Age, Eyes, Hair, Height, and other core information in the Generic tab. Right now, it's so far down in Physical that I sometimes forget to fill it in on new characters. It's even stranger because the information in Biological Sex is listed in the sidebar, next to and even above some of those other Generic information panels.   It also doesn't really fit next to the more expansive and detail-oriented panels of the Physical tab, such as Physical Quirks, Specialized Equipment, Character Prototype, and other long-form information. Whereas it would be more at home with simple but core information like Age, Eyes, and Height. Not every character will have Specialized Equipment, but many will have some sort of Biological Sex.   As a side note, perhaps Gender Identity could be moved to Generic, or a small "Pronouns" panel could be put under Biological Sex in the Generic tab, since gender identity is strongly related to Biological Sex (whose panel even refers to Gender Identity by name).

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It will make the Character template position Biological Sex next to other core character information in the Generic tab.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Since most other character pages I've seen list "Biological Sex" next to things like Age, Eyes, Hair, etc., it could make the Character template just a bit more familiar for people who already have experience with character pages.

The Team's Response

Easy there tigers!   So first of all I am closing this so it doesn't descent into extrement storm.   This issue was addressed some months ago see SoulLink's answer above. I do not believe that the poster is a transphobe and I am not taking this decision based on this.   Secondly, I will
  • Move biological sex on the top of the Physical Tab to make it easier to find
  • The addition of pronouns (in the naming or generic tab) is already an accepted request and it will be implemented very soon
  • I would really prefer if we can let politics out the door, on this board. these are sensitive discussions and the boards are not the best place, as of yet to have anything better than just comments.

I must admit, I prefer it in a section where it's less-important. Nothing's stopping you from putting a tag at the top with gender-info, or entirely customizing it. But for default prompts, I don't see the problem with it not being treated as core character info.

But yes I agree that biological sex belongs next to age/eyes/hair etc etc. If that is on the generic rab or all on the physical tab I do not care.

i feel the same about the biological sex and believe it should return to the generic tab. If you want it ot not, everyone has it and in most cases people notice it as one of first things about a person

This was moved from the generic to the physical tab on 20/03/2021. So I'd rather not have it move again. There are good arguments for both.

Biological sex is a physical traid that is far from defining for a lot of characters. Gender identity might be central and possibly pronouns, though the latter is likely obvious from the text. But sex is, if anything, just a description of genitals.

I'm glad to see this addressing the importance of gender identity
