Mark notifications as read

notification notifications alerts mark-as-read

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Currently there is no way to mark notifications as read, personally like to be able to see past notifications without having an alert for them and I'd rather have only certain ones pinned.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

This feature would simply add a "Mark Notifications as Read" option and stop the numbered alert when all are marked as read.

What are other uses for this feature request?

No other uses, it's just a simple QoL addition for those people who like having a record of notifications without alerts.

Follow up

Just want to add, I'm aware pinning removes the notification message but that negates the point of a pin function. You pin certain things you want to prioritise in the list not everything, if that the only use for the pin function it stops becoming a pin and becomes a mark as read. The ability to have both a pin and a mark as read option are pretty standard options for a notification panel rather than just a delete all option. I vote on quite a lot of suggestions and would like to still see them in my notifications but i personally like to reserve things like pins for world follows.

The Team's Response

This is handled already but with the opposite logic. If you want a notification to stay not be deleted. You can simply PIN it

I've been of the mind that notifications have needed a rework for awhile now, but every suggestion I've made/have seen hasn't gotten much attention. I think this satisfies a lot of issues some of us have been looking for.

I'm actually split on this one, though I lean a little more on the negative side of it. If you've read the notification, why would you need to clear the alert? I use that alert number to keep track and ensure it doesnt get to out of control. Then again, I also understand that it can cause some irritation to see it and a compulsion to remove it. The problem then is notifications will end up getting buried under the unread notifications.   All in all I do agree something should be done regarding notifications as a whole. The problem though is the purpose of the notification is to show what those you follow have posted along with world interaction. Why follow if your just going to ignore the notifications by marking them as read? I get anywhere from 20 to 40 notifications a day. I would never use this feature. It would annoy the crap out of me if I did.   You can use the pin to keep track of what you've voted on, and I'm also curious why using it for world follows prevents that. It's literally what the pin is designed for.   You have to be following the poster and if you follow said poster by clicking on their feature suggestion, the suggestion is already there and unlikely to be sent out as a notification again. Idk it just doesnt really add up for me but you might use world anvil differently. I'm gonna give a soft no.

I personally am someone who hates leaving unread messages/notifications on things, but still want a record of what I have voted on previously. But i want a separate pin for priority notifications.

Sounds like SoulLink has a solution for you with pinning the alert.

You can currently pin a notification which removes it from the notification count. So I don't think this is really necessary at this time.
