Add an article shortcode, or ability to turn off tooltips for single links.

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The ability to create an article with tooltips turned off for a single article link. Something like this:
[article:9419a4b0-af1f-48a5-a901-ce1bc0c6ebeb]Primer: Kirinal Concordance Zone[/article]

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I recently created a custom nav for my site, I had to use hand-coded links instead of using the power of the article mention system. I can't position the tooltips as I'd like with css and the tooltips were covering up the other links in my custom nav.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I think a lot of our power users would love this functionality. Doesn't even have to use the syntax I have above. Something like "|notooltip" as a modifier in the mention tag would work!

The Team's Response

Thanks for your suggestion! While we see why it could be useful in some cases, we think this is too specific so we're declining the suggestion.

I like the "notooltip" tag version of this idea - maintains consistency with options like the "nolink" tag for images.

I currently use hardcoded variables for this, but they're sensitive to url changes, so this would be way better.

I could even see a modification/streamline of the existing tooltip where you could create a small excerpt within the tooltip rather than going to the linked article and filling out the excerpt box and then coming back.   For example, [article:ID |This is a short explanation of this article] Text[/article] It also allows more contextual tooltips where needed, or none at all if you just want a straight link.

The tooltips/snippets/excerpts on hover are fantastic most of the time, but they occasionally get in the way. Having a method to link an article via ID that won't show those pop-ups would be incredibly helpful in those rare exceptions.   The bracket-based article link is a fascinating suggestion. If it functioned like category links, it could also satisfy requests like this. [article:ID] would insert a link matching the article title. [article:ID]Text[/article] would insert a link titled Text. |notooltip on either would insert the link without a popup.
