Searchable Hashtags

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I so appreciate the new hashtags addition to Community Features! This is something that will really get the community going! I do, however, wonder if it is possible to search for a hashtag without seeing it and clicking it to find a thing that has already been done. Or possibly have a list of all hashtags that we can click on and explore? I know search functions can make things laggy and all, but I started to do a thing just now but paused because I didn't know if it had already been done this year.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Searching hashtags would allow community members to see if an unofficial challenge has already been started etc. without having to create a journal entry using the hashtag and then clicking their own post to find some other comments. This would also help things be found that are not on the first community page.   With the url being https://www.worldanvil.com/community/posts?t=, it seems rather easy to have some kind of searchbar that simply puts the search phrase query in the blank at the end after the =. As I tried myself adding different words to the end of that url and I found hashtags through that. Still, going that route is a workaround that isn't very convenient to do.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It's good to have a box of some sort, for others may not think to add to that url. Plus, for user ease and friendliness, such a feature is reccommended.   Once again, I thank you all for being awesome and adding hashtags in the first place! It's such an awesome start to a thing that has great potential! God bless and much success to the crew and the users.

The Team's Response

Hello guys - I am closing this prematurely because we already announced that this is a feature coming up on our Birthday stream :)   By coming up I mean that the new community page is already in development.

Hashtags, from the perspective of a social site, were meant to be searchable tags, weren't they? I saw the announcement and was audibly frustrated that I couldn't immediately search tags. Additionally, loads of people use the same text (including hashtags) several times over to post across websites, our past posts have untagged hashtags in them, I noticed. Could be a case-by-case basis, since journal posts here can use BBCode, so maybe that is just a nitpick on my part. But yeah, we should be able to search 'em.   Notably, World Anvil is a site geared towards world builders, Authors, not Readers, and it is difficult for Readers to find new (to them) content to read with the current feature set: if an author doesn't give you a link to their world, or they aren't mondo famous, then there isn't a great chance of being found. And, there is a huge amount of traffic to the site that is just that: Readers.   Stuff like this isn't just for us social world builders, the primary users, but also for those who are traveling these world, the readers, who make up the bulk of visitors.

I think we need a Trending Hashtag page, that shows the most popular Hashtags this week and has a search bar.
