Disable auto-save notification in text editor

saving -ui notification editor article

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Every time I pause and think about the continuation of a sentence, the auto-save starts and shows its notification. That means, that I have a constant pop-up in my peripheral visual field. This totally destroys the selling point of a "distraction free editor". The pop-up is a constant distraction, that destroyed my train of thought and workflow so often, that I stopped using the article editor the same day that I tried it out for the first time. The feature of the editor is basically unusable for me with the pop-up, which is also appearing on the top left and top right corner of the editor.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

The ability to turn of the notification - not the auto-save itself. Would remove the distraction alltogether. A simple toggle in the editor would be enough. The feature should not be hidden in the options. It should also be configurable per user. Maybe even per user per view, to enable complete customisability.

What are other uses for this feature request?

If implemented generically, the distracting pop-up could be removed in every part of the application.

The Team's Response

Hi! We are not sure how to respond to this because we can't figure out what the pop-up you mention refers to. The only pop-up that can trigger with auto-save is the one that informs you that the auto-save has failed (which is very important to make visible). Would you mind emailing me at community[at]worldanvil.com with more details, and, if possible, a screenshot? Thank you!

I would be against fully removing the notification, because then tons of people (me included) would be constantly stressing on whether or not their recent changes were changed. The option Those2Nerds mentioned sounds better to me.

I agree with Those2Nerds, I feel like a change of colour or maybe a simple checkbox somewhere would suit me more personally

I'm in favor of making things as accessible as feasible, but I would sooner suggest modifying the current notification over adding an option. Maybe if the checkmark was smaller, or less colorful? Adding something like Euclid's focus mode to Plutarch could also resolve the issue.
