you can already do that dawg, do what DMFW said. The gear icon on the sidebar, then the 2 gears, then "date and time". My eras are B.D. and P.E.

There is already some support for this which you might not be aware of. For each world, if you click on settings and then "Date and Time", you can define an Era name and an Era abbreviation, as well as setting a current date within your world. In addition to this, when creating timelines, you can specify different prefixes for each era, although you may need to manually type the display date on a timeline if it doesn't conform to the standard you defined in the world setting.
