bullet-point-list -bulletpoint-list -automatic-list bullet list
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I would like to be able to either enable or disable automatic creation of bullet point lists when typing the sequence: "hyphen space return" in manuscripts (or anywhere else this function exists).
In Polish language, dialogues are written with hyphens instead of quotation marks. With the current automatic functionality in place, every time I hit return I need to press CTRL-Z to remove the list creation. It's a bit cumbersome ^^
How does this feature request address the current situation?
With an option to either turn the automatic lists on or off (and setting it on as default) unaffected users will not feel the difference, but Polish writers will benefit immensely! (Or other languages that might be using hypheneted dialogues I might not be aware of :)
What are other uses for this feature request?
Unfortunately, I don't see that many other use case scenarios. Maybe some people would like to be able to do a simple hyphenated list instead of bulleted?
Follow up
Thank you so much for the response! I see your point, and appreciate the extra info, thanks to you I educated myself on dashes types now ^^
In Windows directly–unfortunately–there is no easy way to type an em dash (the shortcut is Alt+num0151, which is very cumbersome xd). If the Manuscript editor could include some kind of automatic conversion of double hyphen to an em dash or something alike, that would be amazing.
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! When a list is automatically create from a hyphen, you can ctrl+Z to remove the bullet point.
Also, please note that languages that mark dialogue like Polish don't use hyphens, they use em dashes (and no space between the dash and the first word). A hyphen is -, an em dash is —.
